  • And now for a review of something I’ve read recently.

“Curvy” Books One and Two by M. Magdalene

These two books were loaned to me by a friend. It turns out that they are a web comic. I think the books were printed through one of those on demand web services because there is no publisher, indicia, or copyright information in them. But there is a UPC code.

These books carry an “Adults Only” warning on the cover because graphic sex can break out at any moment in the story. And it does. They story is about a young woman who comes from our world (which turns out to be “Boring World”) who meets another young woman who comes from some weird magical video game world. The video game world woman is a princess who has been promised in marriage to a man she isn’t interested in. So she ran away.

That’s about all there is to the plot. These two women travel to a few different worlds over these two volumes and get involved in the intrigues of the various different types of people that they run into. Pirates, mermaids, people made of candy, stupid people, water people, and an NSA agent from our world. It’s all imaginative and well done. Plus sex breaks out between the various people at the drop of a hat.

The art is cutesy and girlish. I have no idea if M. Magdalene is a woman or not (aside from the obvious reference to Mary Magdalene) but the thin lined and big eyed aesthetic seems to me to be reminiscent of a young woman’s unicorn and castle style of drawing.

I liked these two books. The breezy but seat-of-your-pants storytelling style was fun and it showed imagination on every page. It’s a unique work that not just anyone could dream up. If you want to read something that’s funny and sexy and you can handle dirty drawings then check these comics out.
